GUESS: WHO AM I?

Quick intro to self + invention; PROBLEM->NEED->SOLUTION

-Essentially, all products for the Industrial Revolution come from the simplest substances in the ground: coal, tin, iron, etc. Anything more advanced is built on getting these things. I know this, coming from a mining town.

-Born in 1664 in Dartmouth, Devon: a region of mines, which led to my training and career as an ironmonger

-Our region’s problem was: the mines would often flood when we dug too deep

-We needed to invent a powerful enough pump to combat that degree of flooding

-I invented the atmospheric steam engine: combats flooding in mines

Background: How did I come up with this invention?

-I’m just a commoner, but well skilled as an ironmonger

-My boss was Thomas Savery, an aristocrat who’d invented a pump called “The Miner’s Friend”, because it pumped water out of the mines. But it wasn’t that good. Why?

-His invention used high-pressure steam to force water up. Its parts could barely withstand the pressure and needed to be repaired often. Also, his invention could only pump water out from 30 feet deep.

-An ironmonger like me could fix these problems. I knew which kinds of materials to use to withstand the pressure better. After consulting with a scientist, Robert Hooke, I got the idea to add a mechanical pump so that there was no longer a 30-foot limit.

-How does my invention work? The boiler below the cylinder heats water in the cylinder. The steam goes up and works the beam, which operates the pump. Then the steam comes back down and gets condensed into water again. The cycles work at around 12 x per minute, lifting 10 gallons (54.6 litres) per stroke. (1 min = 120 gallons)

What can my invention be used for?

-It’s spread to all the mining districts of England, to remove water from mines

-That’s not all: it’s also used to drain wet lands, supply water to towns, and propel ships

Why fund me?

-My invention (1712) stayed pretty much the same for about 75 years, and spread throughout England and mainland Europe

-If you don’t have this invention, how can you mine any precious materials from the earth? How can you even mine coal? How can you get the most basic stuff for the Industrial Revolution?

-Even when my invention became outdated due to James Watt’s engine in the 1760s and 1770s, it still stayed in use until the 1800s—because my invention was cheaper and less complicated, so it provided options to different places that couldn’t afford the newest technology

Summary

-My invention is needed to get the most basic materials for the Industrial Revolution and other inventions out of the ground

-It can also be used for a wide variety of other tasks that require pumping

-Even if newer things are invented, it can still be useful as to provide people with simpler, cheaper options; not many inventions can last as long as mine with very little need for change

MY NEW VERSION OF TITANIC: I CALL IT "TITANIC 2"! CREATIVE TITLE

The ball starts at 6 o`clock in the night.  Hundreds of people are following along the song, as well as Jim Carry, a low class citizen who has been able to steal the outfit of a butler.  Unexpectedly, he bumps into the ship captain’s daughter, who is overwhelmingly beautiful. Without knowledge of the fact that Jim is poor, the capital’s daughter, Danielle Cromptson, willingly escorts him to the dance.

However, this was four days ago, back when the ship was still afloat with the passengers alive.  Now, people are all swept away from the violent waves and the ship is destroyed and debris is floating along the crests of the waves.  But, all was not lost; with the cap-sized ship, the surviving few have been able to scavenge what is left of food and water. Time was running out.  The supply would not support the eight remaining survivors; Danielle and Jim were two of them.  This was not the worst of their problems.   The air that had been keeping them alive slowly starts to diminish; actions were needed to be taken and fast.

The remainders must find a way to survive through the ‘voyage’ at sea.  But, as days passed by, the problem only seemed to become worse.  Nobody was familiar with each other and on the 9th day of December, one by one, the survivors began to disappear, and there seemed to be not an answer to who the murder is. Along the lines of lacking food and disappearance of survivors, everyone becomes aware of each other and start accusing one another for what had happened. Everyone does not feel safe at this part of time.  But once a mistaken is drawn, this will never repeat itself.  Never than once will it happen.

I Had This Assignment That Was To Be Done: DEFAMILARIZATION

On this newspaper, I will try to demonstrate “bestrangment”. Although it may be strange, it will match together and make sense. To me, the main reason as to why we “defamiliarize” things is to explore our own imagination. It is to make the reader feel what the author thought through the book or the newspaper.  Defamiliarization is all related to creativity; in one story, there are probably millions of ways to look at it. This means that everything depends on you, from the way you pick words to the progress of how you think. In this essay, I will be doing what is called “black out poetry”. Defamiliarization may seem not at all related to “poetry”, but in reality, it is the complete opposite. They are both creative techniques making the audience feel things in a different and bizarre way.

Purpose of defamiliarization is the exploration of art and creativity. Artistic use of your language can give readers a new point of view, as well as perspective. `Defamiliarization` was to be first known and used by Victor Shklovsky. He meant this to the means of viewing objects differently. To people who read this, it is ever so beautiful with the intermingled structures of phrases, described the way it has never been done before. It is to make them astonished by doing something different of what the audience perceives.

To my own life, the term “defamiliarization” is relevant. As I got to learn about defamiliarization, I realized how important it was in my life. Not only did creativity come out of the box, but I learned a lot new ways of expressing things. Because defamiliarization links closely together with poetry, it helped me a lot through poetry sessions. It gave me more variety of options as how to write or say phrases, especially because I don’t have a religion because it blocks some desires across all different beliefs.

The Most Challenging Activity Of My Life

I think the most challenging thing I have done was skipping a grade in science. It wasn’t that science itself was especially hard; using English in science class was my main problem. At the time, I knew only the simplest phrases such as ‘thank you’ and I struggled with my science homework because I couldn’t understand the teacher.  Consequently, I tried to learn English as fast as possible through academies and skyping with my dad who, having worked in the United States for five years, was experienced in English.  It wasn’t easy, especially with all the exceptions to proscribed grammar rules and all of the scientific jargon, but I got the hang of it as I practiced and practiced, read books, and memorized vocabulary.  It was also a real challenge working with my science teacher because he had specific expectations about how we should do our work, which was very hard for me since it was rare that I understood what he was saying.  Ultimately, after a few months of practice and learning from my failures, I began to speak English better and understand my teacher more, while excelling in the course—all of which felt like a huge accomplishment.

Some Values Of My Life

Forgiveness- One must know how to forgive the other and that is considered as a value to me

I value forgiveness because it allows us as friends and families to be connected as one.

Responsibility- This is huge; one must be accountable for decisions and actions

Responsibility is a huge value because everyone must do their jobs in order get things organized around the house.

Trust- People should have the tendency to trust you

People should generally find trust very important because it does not become complicated communicating.

Generosity- People should be generous for one another to help develop the society

I have generosity as one of my values because it encourages one another.

Family- The main value of mine is my family because of how much support they give to me everyday

Family is obviously important because they support and very close to me.

Friends- Friends can be influential in good ways (and bad ways); they help me push myself forward

Friends usually help you push yourself further than you were going to.

Appreciation- One must know how to appreciate things for what others have done

People will feel brighter with appreciation which is why it’s an important value to me.

Kindness- This is important because it affects our society as we all must work together to develop

Being kind is gives people a lot of encouragement as well as help.

Respect- One must know how to respect the elders and know where they are (self-determination)

Respect is VERY important when it comes to my family because you must be able to recognize your rights and worth.

Honesty- Demonstrating truthfulness and sincerity is a huge value
Honesty is another good value because it keeps everyone connected to one another.

Thinking Of My Dreams: Scientist??

I think the most important quality in a scientist is imagination. In order for the act of invention to take place and for scientists to apply methods or ideas that lead to meaningful change, they must conceive of goals that, at first, may seem ostentatious. In this sense, I believe that imagination is the power that propels and advances the science and technology world. Of course, the objective of scientific research should be to improve our society and to apply our findings and knowledge to building a better world or creating new things that can benefit Nature and human life.  For me, being positioned to do so requires exploration of what is out there in the world and the courage to dream of how it can be changed.  In other words, I want to think outside of the box. Therefore, imagination—innovative thinking and creativity—is the most important quality of a scientist.
